Artificial Intelligence vs. AI: Viewpoints

Dasgupta gives talk during IEEE Day as distinguished lecturer to national and international audience.

Dr. Dipankar Dasgupta, Hill Professor in Cybersecurity and Director of the Center for Information Assurance, recently gave an invited talk entitled “AI vs. AI: Viewpoints” on IEEE DAY as a IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. Every year, IEEE members from IEEE Sections, Student Branches, Affinity groups, and Society Chapters join hands to celebrate IEEE Day. Events happen both virtually and in person. IEEE Day celebrated the first time in history when engineers worldwide gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884.

The virtual lecture, held on October 4, was organized by IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and attended by participants from all over the world. The talk covered important applications of AI/ML in search, optimization, prediction, and discovery; how algorithmic bias can impact decisions; and how AI can play dual-role and can be applied in many ways with varying intent. He also exhibited use cases on “Defensive AI and Offensive AI”, and in designing AI-Based “Digital Twin”. He also argued that with the significant business benefits of using AI/ML techniques, there exist possibilities of misuse/abuse or inappropriate use of such techniques. The talk is available on the IEEE YouTube channel. Listen to full talk here>>
