UofM Featured in NIH Innovators’ Launch Event
The NIH sponsored event showcased funding opportunities and resources for biotechnology entrepreneurs
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) hosted a two-day virtual Launching Biomedical Innovators event on June 20-21st featuring companies, universities, and organizations across the state of Tennessee to support technology transfer and innovation. The two-day event provided biomedical startups a chance to learn about SBIR/STTR funding opportunities from the brightest minds across the country. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from local universities, incubators, and life-science focused organizations about resources that are available to aspiring biomedical entrepreneurs as well as perspectives from successful NIH SBIR/STTR awardees.
The University of Memphis partnered with NIH for the event and Dr. Brian Evans, Manager of Strategic Research initiatives, presented on academic resources for entrepreneurs at the University of Memphis highlighting the Patents2Products (P2P) program and the University of Memphis Research Foundation (UMRF). University of Memphis was one of many organizations across the state presenting, including Epicenter, Life Science Tennessee, Launch Tennessee, Jumpstart Health Investigators, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and the Vanderbilt’s innovation center the Wond’ry. The event also included a panel discussion with successful TN based biotechnology companies who have received NIH SBIR/STTR funding including VoluMetrix, OculoTherapy, and Yaya Scientific.
