University of Memphis Partners with TheraSyn Bio

To advance Synthetic Biology Research in biomedical, bioscience and cybersecurity fields

The University of Memphis and Massachusetts-based synthetic biology company TheraSyn Bio Inc. have partnered to advance synthetic biology research within the University’s biomedical, bioscience and computer science departments. The collaborative partnership will focus on developing innovative research solutions for various industries, including precision healthcare solutions, agriscience and environmental sustainability. TheraSyn Bio is a U.S. Federal Government certified contractor.

Synthetic biology is a multidisciplinary area of research that seeks to create new biological parts, devices and systems or redesign systems already found in nature. It is a branch of science encompassing various methodologies from several disciplines such as biotechnology, genetic engineering, molecular biology, molecular engineering, systems biology, membrane science, biophysics, chemical and biological engineering, electrical and computer engineering, control engineering and evolutionary biology.

From an economic and workforce development standpoint, the global synthetic biology market size was estimated at $13.4 billion in 2022 and is expected to hit around USD $116.04 billion by 2032, poised to grow at a rate of 28.3% between 2023 and 2032. The U.S. synthetic biology market was valued at $3.97 billion in 2022.

The United States leads in the development of synthetic biology. With strategic investment from its government agencies, the U.S. establishes research centers and programs in synthetic biology, enabling significant advances in foundational tool development and practical applications ranging from bioenergy biomanufacturing to biomedicine.

TheraSyn Bio is committed to harnessing the power of synthetic biology to create a better world for all. With a team of world-class experts in synthetic biology, TheraSyn Bio is uniquely positioned to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing society today.

"We are excited to partner with the University of Memphis and bring together the best minds in synthetic biology to create innovative solutions for a healthier and more sustainable future," said Daisy Gallagher, co-founder and chairman of TheraSyn Bio.

TheraSyn Bio and the University of Memphis partnership will leverage cutting-edge synthetic biology outcomes while simultaneously increasing education and workforce development in this emerging field of science.

Our goal is to create sustainable health and a circular economy by becoming the digital technology solution targeting precision bioscience,” said co-founder and chief scientific officer Dr. Reginald Swift.
