Phillip (Tony) Poteet, chief university planning officer in the Department of Campus Planning & Design, was awarded $2,026,630 from the State of Tennessee, Office of Criminal Justice Programs for his project “OCJP Grant mgt for campus safety.”

Dr. Eddie Jacobs, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was awarded $500,000 from the Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2) with the US Army Research Office for his project “Forward Operations Sensor Security Network.”

Dr. Wesley James, Pat E. Burlison Professor in the Department of Sociology, was awarded $225,000 from the City of Memphis Police Department (CMPD) with the US Department of Justice (US DoJ) for his project “Evaluation of Memphis Police Department Crisis Intervention Programs.”

Dr. Brian Waldron, associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and director of the Center for Applied Earth Science and Engineering, was awarded $147,000 from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (UTK) with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for his project “UTK wastewater.”

Dr. Jonathan Bennett, associate director in the Center for Community Research and Evaluation, was awarded $87,736 from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation for his project “Pretrial Outcomes in Shelby County: An Analysis of Recent Bail Reform.”

Dr. Matthew Smeltzer, associate professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental Health, was awarded $78,591 from Baptist Cancer Center (BCC) with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his project “Improving pathologic nodal staging of resected lung cancer” and an additional $22,930 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his project “Predicting Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease in Sickle Cell Anemia Using Machine Learning Models (PREMIER).”

Dr. Robert Smalley, research professor in the Center for Earthquake Research and Information, was awarded $52,359 from the US Geological Survey (USGS) for his project “GPS Array for Mid-America - monitoring deformation in the New Madrid seismic zone.”

Dr. Benjamin Keller, assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Materials Science, was awarded $47,776 from the Space Telescope Science Institute for his project “Teasing Apart the Effects of Radiation and SN Feedback in Simulated Observations of Dwarf Galaxies.”

Dr. Russell Deaton, interim dean in the Herff College of Engineering and associate dean of Academic Affairs and Administration, was awarded $30,000 from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance for his project “State A/E Board Grant.”

Dr. Carolyn Kaldon, research associate professor in the Center for Research in Educational Policy, was awarded $28,000 from the Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis for her project “WFGM Vision 2025: Evaluation 2023-2024.”

Dr. Michael Hagge, professor and chair in the Department of Architecture, was awarded $13,127 from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance for his project “Department of Architecture State of Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners block grant.”

Dr. Timothy McCuddy, assistant professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, was awarded $7,694 from the Black Clergy Collaborative of Memphis (BCCM) with the Annie E Casey Foundation (AECF) for his project “BCCM Survey 2024.”

Dr. Courtnee Melton-Fant, assistant professor in the Division of Health Systems Management and Policy, was awarded $5,000 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for her project “Workers' rights preemption, political power, and racial equity in the US South.”

Dr. Maxime Paquette, associate professor in the College of Health Sciences, was awarded $5,000 from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for his project “The Use of In-field Measures of Tibial Compressive Force using Wearable Devices and Marker-less Motion Capture.”

Dr. Jamie Brunsdon, assistant professor in the College of Health Sciences, was awarded $1,250 from Adelphi University with the Spectrum Institute for Teaching and Learning for his project “Investigating the Role and Use of The Spectrum in Modern PETE Programs.”
