Alternative Break Experience
Alternative Break Experience (ABE) trips are 6-day 5-night service-immersion trips
where students choose to spend their spring break in other regionally located cities,
to serve those residents through multiple community service projects. These trips
are student-led with a staff support system. Students will participate in 20 hours
of hands-on community service while also getting a chance to explore the city.
The Alternative Break Experience trips have proven to be a high impact practice. These trips not only positively affect the residents of those communities, but also positively impact our students and our Memphis community because the students come back with a fresh pair of eyes and a greater passion and desire to do service in their own community as well. These opportunities build our students into socially responsible and active global citizens.
The program fee is $200 and covers transportation costs, lodging, food, supplies, and activities.
To apply for the program, students can access the ABE application through Tiger Zone under “forms.”
