Ali Filipovich
Visiting Assistant Professor of Costume Design, Department of Theatre & Dance
About Ali Filipovich
Ali Filipovich received her Bachelor of Arts in theatre technical design with an emphasis in costumes from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. After graduating she worked as a full-time dyer and costume technician at Vstar Entertainment creating Sesame Street Live and Paw Patrol Live. In addition, she worked as a freelance costume designer in the Twin Cities area for Ashland Productions and SonLight Dance Studios.
After some time, she left the Twin Cities and moved to work as the costume shop supervisor at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. There she taught and mentored student workers while managing production, budgeting, and labor of the costume shop. She also served as a draper, dyer, and crafts head as well as designing various productions. It was here that she discovered her love for teaching at Luther College and decided to pursue her Master of Fine Arts.
Ali received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Memphis. During her time there she began teaching as an adjunct professor in the Theatre department and the Fashion department. After graduation, she worked at Ballet Memphis as the costume shop manager and continued to teach in the fashion department as an adjunct professor. She is incredibly excited to be back at the University of Memphis teaching full-time.
