Thursday, 06 August 2026
Dr. Richard Bloomer, Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Memphis and nutrition scientist, was recently interviewed by Forbes about the growing popularity of colostrum supplements. Bloomer explained that research shows colostrum may help reduce gut permeability, protect the intestinal lining during intense physical stress and decrease some respiratory infections. However, he cautioned that the supplement is often “overly hyped” and may not be worth its high cost for most people. He also advised consumers to choose trusted brands that invest in research supporting the safety and effectiveness of their products. Bloomer encouraged consumers to prioritize a nutrient-rich diet, regular exercise and adequate sleep before turning to expensive supplements.
