Ross Smith, PhD, and Aaron Persinger, faculty members at the College of Health Sciences, joined Live at 9 to show viewers how to exercise safely with injuries. Watch the full segment below.

In recognition of Respect Injury Awareness Month, faculty from the University of Memphis College of Health Sciences partnered with Live at 9 to help viewers move smarter and safer. Dr. Ross Smith and Aaron Persinger demonstrated practical strategies for exercising in ways that protect the body—especially for individuals managing old or recurring injuries.

During the segment, they emphasized proper form, gradual progression, and listening to warning signs to reduce the risk of exacerbation. While the exercises shown were designed to promote safer movement, they made clear that the guidance was educational in nature and not intended to replace evaluation or treatment from a licensed clinician.

Through community outreach like this, Health Sciences faculty continue advancing their mission to improve health literacy and support injury prevention across Memphis and beyond.
