Fayette County Civil Rights Movement Archives

Fayette County Tent City from the 1960s civil rights movement

About

In 2006, the University of Memphis acquired the papers of activists of the Fayette County, Tennessee Civil Rights Movement. This collection includes correspondence, photographs, and documents created during the events. The Fayette County collection also contains historically rich audio and video interviews with the activists.

The Fayette County Civil Rights Movement collection contains contemporaneous records of local and national events that comprise the Civil Rights Movement. These materials add historical depth to existing materials on the struggle for civil rights, such as the 1968 Sanitation Workers Strike Collection, held in Special Collections at the University of Memphis McWherter Library.
