How to Apply

Submit Graduate School Application

The History Department accepts admits students in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Interested students must apply to the university's graduate school and submit supplemental application materials to the department.

You should send or have sent all transcripts, test scores (GRE), and fees, directly to:

Do not send them to the Department of History.

We do not distinguish between on campus and online applicants at the graduate school. If you are interested in the online program please specify that in your personal statement, as online offerings differ slightly from on campus offerings.

Send Supplemental Materials to Department

We require the following supplemental application materials:

  • Letters of Recommendation (2 for MA program, 3 for PhD program)
  • Writing Sample
  • Personal Statement

We prefer supplemental material to be sent electronically. Letters of recommendation can be sent electronically if they originate from an university account.

*Students applying for assistantships MUST submit all application materials by January 15.

Applications that arrive by the January 15 deadline will be given preferential treatment; however, those received between 15 January and July 15 will be considered for fall admission. In spring and summer applications submitted by the deadlines will be given preferential treatment; however, whenever possible, we will evaluate late applications.
