Research Pillars
Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly. Our legal system, designed to evolve at a much slower pace, is being challenged to adapt and harness the power of new technology while maintaining an equitable, transparent, and ethical judicial system. That is why DIAL has several foundation research pillars in place to guide the work of the Institute.

DIAL RESEARCH PILLARS
- The Applied AI Pillar shall focus on technology in its current state so as to enhance capabilities, identify and eliminate bias, and formulate advancements for legal practice, education, and industry.
- The Legal Innovation and Regulatory Theory Pillar shall evaluate existing laws and regulations and develop recommendations for legislation, regulation, and model rules in legal practice.
- The Data Governance and Privacy Technology Pillar shall consist of research on privacy enhancing technologies, infrastructure for information sharing that maximizes data privacy, data sovereignty, and develop methods for enabling data protection through technology.
- The AI and Society Pillar shall research how AI is affecting labor markets, community, democracy, and society and develop methods to enhance transparency, explainability, replicability, and governance in a framework of safety and high ethical standards.
