Voices of Wellness: A Global Conversation on the 9 Dimensions of Well-Being

Abstract

This project proposes “Voices of Wellness”, a 9-episode video podcast series and community talk designed to enhance holistic wellness literacy and practical self-care among university students and young adults. It is grounded in the 9 Dimensions of Wellness and a biopsychosocial perspective. The project responds to a common challenge in higher education settings: wellness is often reduced to physical and mental health, while social, cultural, occupational, spiritual, environmental, and financial dimensions remain under-recognized and under-practiced in daily life.

The primary audience is University of Memphis students, including domestic and international students and those connected to Global Friends Memphis, with a secondary global audience reached through digital platforms. Each 30-minute episode will follow a consistent structure: a brief hook, a lived-experience story from a guest representing a different cultural context, a public-health explanation of that wellness dimension, and 2–3 concrete, low-cost strategies students can implement. Guests from countries such as India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Ghana, Nigeria, China, Indonesia, and the United States will illustrate how wellness is understood and practiced across cultures, emphasizing both shared struggles and unique contextual challenges.

Evaluation will combine platform analytics (views, comments, shares), and pre–post surveys at the community talk to assess changes in wellness knowledge and self-efficacy. All guests will provide media consent, and care will be taken to avoid harmful disclosures.
