Practitioner (Initial) Teaching License

The Practitioner (Initial) Teaching License is issued to candidates who have successfully completed the Residency Year or the Clinical Teaching Semester. Graduate, non-degree seeking students are also eligible to apply for their license once they have completed all coursework and met the requirements below.

Graduate students applying for a Tennessee Teaching License must:

  • Have completed ALL teacher licensure coursework prescribed on your degree sheet.
  • Have a successful edTPA score.
  • Have a conferred degree; official transcript is required prior to applying. 
  • Complete the Initial Teacher Licensure Form>. 
  • Confirm that all of your Praxis II test scores were sent to The University of Memphis (code: 1459) and the Tennessee Department of Education (code: 8190). NOTE: The last four digits of your SSN must appear on your score report.
