The Dietetics curriculum provides foundation, knowledge and skills in the areas of
communications, physical and biological sciences, social sciences, research, food,

A concentration in Exercise, Sport & Movement Sciences provides a comprehensive exposure
to the field of exercise science, with coursework in areas such as kinesiology, physiology,
biomechanics, motor behavior and exercise programming.

The Health Sciences concentration allows you to pursue your interests among the various
health professions. It is grounded in health promotion theory and practice and offers
elective hours allowing you to align your program with your own professional goals.

The online concentration in Healthcare Leadership provides a comprehensive exposure
to the field of leadership with coursework in areas such as the healthcare environment,
professionalism, leadership, business skills and communication.
Physical Education Teacher Education BSEd
The Sport Coaching concentration is designed to train forward-thinking people to be
the coaches who will lead the next generation of athletes in the fast-paced world
of sport. The program aims to prepare students for the demands of leading athletes
in individual and team sports at all levels. You’ll receive instruction in areas such
as coaching individual and team sports, motivation in athletes, sports performance,
administration and leadership, as well as officiating techniques and instruction.
Physical Education Teacher Education
This PETE licensure program prepares you to become physically literate teachers and
coaches who are trained in the best practices of physical education and wellness.
It is a fully accredited program and is led by a vibrant and productive faculty that
is nationally and internationally recognized for its scholarship.
Academic Minors
Nutrition, Health and Wellness
The Nutrition, Health & Wellness academic minor is intended to enrich your current
plan of study and provide an opportunity to learn valuable skills and information
applicable within healthcare settings. Open to all majors.
This 24-credit-hour minor is available to students across campus. Students are immersed
in didactic (traditional, lecture-based) and kinesthetic (physical activity) courses
to develop a better understanding of key concepts related to personal training, with
the program designed to prepare you with the material addressed on assorted professional
personal training certification exams.
The College of Health Sciences offers a 24-credit-hour minor in Medical Assisting
available to all students, regardless of major. This program serves students in various
disciplines who are interested in learning about and/or working within the healthcare
field.
For the Academic Minor, current UofM undergraduate students who add this as a minor
will be taught coursework that allows you to obtain the necessary knowledge and practical
skills needed to sit for the national certification exam in medical assisting. If
you do not desire to obtain a certificate, the coursework is helpful if you choose
to pursue other entry-level healthcare positions for which such knowledge and skills
may be desired.

Balance school and life with the flexibility of our UofM Global program designed for those who desire increased knowledge and understanding of exercise and nutrition science. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) prepares you to practice physical therapy across clinical settings including sports medicine, orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, inpatient acute care and more.
Graduate Certificate
Sport Nutrition and Dietary Supplementation
The graduate certificate in Sport Nutrition and Dietary Supplementation is useful for registered dietitians/nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches, personal trainers and healthcare providers (e.g., nurses, pharmacists) who may receive questions from athletes or patients specific to the topics of sport nutrition and dietary supplementation.

Please note: Not all programs are open to the public. Some are offered exclusively through employer partnerships with the College of Health Sciences and are labeled Employer Partnership Only. Programs available to both the public and employer partners will indicate both options in their title. You do not have to be a UofM student to participate in a Healthcare Career Academy program.
Employer Partnerships | Open to the Public
Our 6-month Emergency Medical Technician program combines classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, and clinical experience to prepare students for effective EMT practice. Virtual tools are included to support preparation for the National Registry EMT certification exam required for state licensure.
Eligible medical assistants may complete a 9-month hybrid program that prepares them to obtain radiographs of the core, chest, extremities, skull, and sinuses. Approved by the State of Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners, the program prepares learners to sit for the ARRT Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography exam and includes clinical hours for hands-on experience.
Employer Partnerships | Open to the Public | Undergraduate Minor
In addition to our community program, we partner with organizations to provide employee training aligned with the National Healthcare Association’s Certified Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) exam. Through flexible online coursework and optional clinical add-ons, employers can fill critical roles in as little as six months.
Our eight-week program combines engaging instruction and hands-on training to prepare students for certification as phlebotomy technicians.
Our 15-month program combines online coursework with clinical instruction to prepare students for competent, entry-level practice as surgical technologists.

Our Lifestyle Medicine Specialist Course prepares you to guide patients in making small, research-based lifestyle changes that prevent and even reverse chronic conditions, filling a vital gap in healthcare focused on prevention and lasting well-being.
