Welcome to Herff Engineering!
Whether you are interested in learning more about our college or ready to begin your journey with us, I invite you click through our website and discover what makes us and the University of Memphis so special. A Carnegie R1 institution, the UofM is securely in the top tier of research universities in the country and one of two flagship public institutions in Tennessee. As a research focused college, we are a major part of that national recognition and success.
Having joined Herff in January 2023, my decision to join the ranks is consistently reaffirmed as I witness the exciting research, excellent education and powerful industry collaborations occurring on campus and in the community every day. We are uniquely positioned in a city and region filled with engineering rich opportunities that provide creative partnership and experiential learning opportunities to broaden the education of our students. And there is more to come.
With the construction of the Blue Oval City underway, there are current and future opportunities for students and faculty to be involved with the project that is expected to open in 2025. Located about 40 miles outside Memphis in Stanton, Tennessee, Blue Oval will be an automotive assembly complex that will be operated by Ford Motor Company and SK Innovation.
Closer to home, we are expanding our own blueprint on campus and the city with the construction of the STEM Classroom & Research Building (SCRB). This building will support our existing collaborative culture and be home to innovative research in advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, big data, biomaterials, cyber security, engineered materials, energy storage, hydrology, image sensing, transportation, workforce development, and more. The future is bright, and I look forward to being a part of it.
Those of you who have already joined our family, welcome! If you are still on the fence, I encourage you visit our campus and see for yourself why Herff Engineering is the college for you.
