Internship Forms

For Students:

The Department of Journalism and Strategic Media offers students the opportunity to earn academic credit for completing an internship. A minimum of 150 hours is required at the internship in order to earn 3 credits in a given semester. A student may complete a maximum of two 3-credit internships as part of a bachelor's degree program, but only 3 credits may come from the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media. Here are the forms and advice that students will need in order to succeed at their internships:

For Employers:

Employer Internship Agreement

Students may earn up to 3 credit hours for serving an internship (150+ hours) and completing the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media's internship class (offered every semester).

Formulate an internship description for the position needing to be filled. The internship must offer the opportunity for students to enhance their professional preparation or expand their career opportunities. The experience must contain meaningful, professional learning experiences.

Student Media Practicum Forms

For Students:

The Department of Journalism and Strategic Media offers students the opportunity to earn academic credit for working in student media. A minimum of 120 hours is required in the student media experience in order to earn 3 credits in a given semester. Students do not need to earn practicum credit to work in student media, but have the option to do so.

Here are the forms for the student media practicum.

Student Media Practicum Agreement

Students must first secure a position in student media. The practicum credit can be taken for 1-3 hours depending on how many hours the student works for the media outlet.

Permit Request Form: For specific Journalism, Advertising or Public Relations courses that require a permit

Student Request for Departmental Travel Funds: For students who will be reimbursed for departmental travel

Pennington Abroad Scholarship Application Form: The Department of Journalism and Strategic Media offers several $1,500.00 scholarships through the Pennington Study Abroad Scholarship to JRSM students pursuing a University of Memphis study abroad program in the summer or during the academic year. To apply, submit the linked application, along with a resume, online portfolio and unofficial transcript, and have a letter of recommendation from a University of Memphis JRSM faculty member submitted by email to: Dr. David Arant, Chair of the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media at darant@memphis.edu.
