Coalition of Black Social Workers-University of Memphis (CBSW-UM)

The name of this organization shall be the Coalition of Black Social Workers-University of Memphis Chapter.  The acronym is CBSW-UM.

Mission

The mission of the Coalition of Black Social Workers is as follows: The Coalition of Black Social Workers exists to engage, connect, and empower Black social work students and professionals in the community, with the goal of increasing awareness about issues specific to the Black community and cultivating a network of support.

  • Involvement Fair
Thursday, August 28th, 2025 l UC Alumni Mall Lawn l 3:00pm-7:00pm l Main Campus Find our table at the Involvement Fair and learn more about us!  There will be information about who we are, what we do, and why you should join us.    

September 2025

  • BASW Open House 
Wednesday, September 17th, 2025 I Virtual Online Event I 1:00pm-2:30pm I  Open House  
  • CBSW-UM Chapter Kick-off Meeting
Monday, September 22nd, 2025 l UC Shelby Room (342) l 3:30pm-5:00pm l Virtual Access Available This meeting is for current and prospective members to kick off the upcoming year with CBSW!  Our CBSW-UM chapter officers will host a Speed Networking Meet and Greet activity.  Come join us!  

October 2025

  • CBSW  Chapter Meeting
Monday, October 27th, 2025 l UC Shelby Room (342) l 3:30pm-5:30pm l Virtual Access  Learn about Mentorship and Stress Less with CBSW!  Join us as we host a panel discussion about mentorship with some of our very own mentors!  They'll be there to discuss their experience in the program as well as answer any questions that you may have.  This meetingis for members only.  

November 2025 

  • CBSW-UM Chapter Meeting 
Monday, November 24th, 2025 I UC Shelby Room (342) l 3:30pm-5:00pm I Virtual Access Join CBSW for virtual Game Night!  This meeting is open to all, so please hang with us as we enjoy some refreshments, reflection, and relaxation.  Make sure you have your favorite snacks and beverages around!  
  • Service Project (pending)  Tiger Pantry Drive
Tuesday, November 4th-8th  Help CBSW collect items for the University Tiger Pantry!  Items such as canned goods and hygiene products will be appreciated.  There will be locations on campus where you can drop the items off at, so stay tuned for that!       VIRTUAL MEETING INSTRUCTIONS Fall 2025: All CBSW Meeting notifications will be sent via invitation in Microsoft Outlook to your campus email address.  We will also be participating in virtual activities with our sister chapter and students across Tennessee.     **Having trouble with registration for a CBSW event?  Contact the Faculty Advisor Kenya Anderson via email kenya.anderson@memphis.edu

CBSW-UM is looking for student leaders dedicated to active pursuit of the mission and goals of the Coalition of Black Social Workers.  CBSW emphases Black Excellence in person and practice.  We need leadership today who will support the vision for tomorrow.  CBSW-UM members are encouraged to consider time and commitment in service to the Coalition of Black Social Workers.  Members are invited to contact Faculty Advisor, Ms. Kenya Anderson, to discuss and explore leadership opportunities.

NOTE: In order to be eligible for and maintain an executive board position, the student must be in good academic standing with the School of Social Work and demonstrate commitment to the mission through engagement, practice,and service.
