The Campus Network Upgrade Project

Project Description and Scope

Network Services (or Information Technology Services) will be upgrading the network infrastructure at all UofM locations. 
The project consists of 3 major phases:

• Phase 1 – Replacement of network switches
• Phase 2 - Replacement of wireless access points
• Phase 3 – Replace of network access controller.

Note: These dates, times, and building schedule can be adjusted as needed.

Network Upgrade Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Will the network be off-line during a specific timeframe? Does that mean that the network is unavailable during that time or just intermittently?
Assume that no network will be available during the entire time frame for your building's date.

Will phones be affected?
RingCentral phones will be unavailable during the switch replacement. Users can download the RingCentral and use their cell phone if needed.

Will I need to reboot my machine after the network upgrade is completed?
Yes, a reboot is suggested.

Will this affect my wireless connection?
Yes, your wireless connection will not be available during the building's switch over.

Who do I call if I my network is not working?
Call the Service Desk at 901.678.8888. Please let them know the building and room number you are calling about.

Network Upgrade Tentative Project Timeline

Information Technology Services (ITS) will launch a network upgrade to all buildings on campus beginning February 3, 2025. Below you will find a schedule of buildings with dates and expected outage times.​
