School of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Extended Program
University of Memphis 10-Semester Master’s Degree in SLP – Pilot Program
The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at The University of Memphis is excited to offer a 10‑semester M.A. in Speech‑Language Pathology designed for students who require a non‑traditional, less intensive pace of study. This extended‑format option is ideal for students balancing work, caregiving responsibilities, or other life circumstances while completing the same accredited degree as students in the traditional program.
The 10‑semester program is identical in content, requirements, and expectations to the traditional 5‑ or 6‑semester track. Students complete the same coursework, the same clinical practica, and the same off‑campus clinical placements alongside students in the traditional program, only distributed across 10 semesters instead of a more condensed timeframe. There is no difference in curriculum, clinical hour requirements, or degree earned.
Students in the 10‑semester program receive high‑quality classroom instruction and extensive clinical training from nationally recognized faculty in a program consistently ranked among the top in the country for over 20 years.
All courses and clinical placements are conducted in person and are shared with students in the traditional program. This is not an online program. Regardless of program pace, all students are held to the same academic, professional, and clinical standards and must meet identical competencies to progress and graduate.
Students benefit from individualized clinical experiences at the on‑campus Memphis Speech and Hearing Center, as well as a broad range of external placements in hospitals, schools, and private clinics throughout Memphis and the surrounding areas. By graduation, all students—regardless of program length—will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience required to successfully enter the Clinical Fellowship and begin their professional careers with confidence.
