Call for Research Grant Proposals

FedEx Institute of Technology – Data Science Cluster

Co-Directors: Dr. David Kemme and Dr. Vasile Rus

The FedEx Institute of Technology Data Science Research Innovation Cluster is a University of Memphis interdisciplinary group focusing on research, education and applications of data science theory and methods. The Cluster has funds available to support faculty research in the area of Data Science, broadly defined, and herewith we are calling for research proposals that advance these interests. Proposals from all academic disciplines are welcome. Faculty early in their career are particularly encouraged to apply.

The current round of funding will be devoted to faculty support for Summer 2019. Proposal budgets should not exceed $15,000 (total) and may include faculty stipend, equipment, graduate student assistance. Proposals must include a cover sheet and follow the format provided at this link. CVs of applicant and relevant staff must be included. Faculty may submit a joint proposal, but each individual is limited to participating in only one proposed project. Proposals must stay within the required page limit (4 pages including the cover page – see details later). Proposals that are incomplete or do not follow the format below will not be considered.

Deadline to receive proposals is April 5, 2019. Please submit proposals by email to: fedex@memphis.edu with DS Research Grant in the subject line. A selection committee of data science scholars will review all proposals. Those submitting proposals will be notified, regardless of funding decision, by mid-April, 2019. Funds must be expended or obligated by the end of the current fiscal year. For further information, contact David Kemme, dmkemme@memphis.edu or Vasile Rus, vrus@memphis.edu.
