Computer Access Policy

The University of Memphis Libraries system provides access to its catalogs and databases, unrestricted Internet searching, e-mail, and UM software for all registered U of M students, faculty, and staff. U of M students, faculty, and staff may use any of the computers in McWherter Library by entering the username and password they use for MyMemphis.

The general public is welcome in any of the University Libraries. The general public may use a guest account to access the computers in the McWherter Library Learning Commons (room 110) during regular McWherter Library hours. Non-U of M students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult to use the workstations in the University Libraries. Guest use of McWherter Library and the Learning Commons is limited to the service hours of McWherter Library. Guest computer accounts will terminate 15 minutes prior to Library closing. A valid University of Memphis ID will be required to remain in the Learning Commons after Library closing.  For more information about computer access for guests, please read the Guest Computer Policy.

All computer use must be in compliance with the U of M Information Systems Acceptable Use Policy and U. S. copyright law. Title 17 of the U. S. Code prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted materials, except as permitted by the principles of "fair use." Users may not copy or distribute electronic materials (including electronic mail, text, images, programs or data) without the explicit permission of the copyright holder. All responsibility for any consequences of copyright infringement lies with the user; the Libraries expressly disclaim any liability or responsibility resulting from such violations.

Disclaimer: Due to licensing agreements, off-campus access to many of these resources is restricted to current University of Memphis students, faculty and staff, Extended Programs, and TN eCampus (formerly RODP) students taking classes taught by University of Memphis faculty.
