For Prospective Members (students seeking to join our lab)
We aim to continually attract talented people who want to learn and contribute to ultrasound research. Ultrasound research is an interdisciplinary field combining Engineering, Physics, and Medicine; an interest in all of these areas is necessary to be successful in our research lab. Position availability can depend on current funding and group size, and match of your interests with current and possible future research areas. In the process of choosing a research group, it's important to first narrow/specify your goals and research interests (as clearly as possible), and also request references from faculty--whom you've worked with and/or taken a course from--in advance.
Please read the following, learn about our research and people on this site, and contact us with any specific questions. (Note: Don't send "form" emails; we won't respond to inquiries that do not show genuine personal interest.)
Prospective Graduate Students: The UofM and UTHSC have a joint graduate BME program (browse both BME sites: UTHSC and UofM); regular-cycle applicants (for Fall semester start) should apply through UTHSC's portal (priority deadline: December 15; final dealines: May 15 for U.S. citizens & April 1 for international students). Off-cycle admissions may also be processed (contact UofM BME). Strong communication skills (oral presentation and writing), computer programming experience (Matlab, other object-oriented languages), and prior research experience (especially if it relates to ultrasound/imaging) can help strengthen your application to join our lab.
Prospective Post-Doctoral Fellows: We seek post-doctoral members who have substantial experience in ultrasound. You should be capable of working in a team-oriented environment and able to independently solve problems. (If you have little or no experience with ultrasound, our lab will likely not be a good fit for you.) Please reach out to Dr. Herickhoff to discuss potential post-doc projects and opportunities.
