Welcome to the Center for Writing and Communication!

The Center for Writing and Communication (CWC), located on the first floor of the Ned R. McWherter Library, is a combined writing and speaking center that provides free, one-on-one consultations with a trained staff of graduate students from the Departments of English and Communication. CWC consultants can provide feedback on your writing and speaking assignments at any stage of the creative process, from understanding an assignment, developing a topic, and implementing standard citation styles such as APA and MLA. If you are presenting a speech or project, you can also practice in our presentation studio

Whether you're working on academic papers, presentations, or speeches, or personal documents like letters of intent or scholarship essays, our consultants will work with you to gain the knowledge and confidence needed to improve your writing and speaking skills. Although we do not offer line-by-line editing services, you can come to the CWC for help developing your own editing strategies, improving the mechanics of your writing, thinking critically about your writing, and honing your verbal and non-verbal presentation styles.

Students are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment, but walk-in sessions may at times be available when the CWC is open.
