Hooks Institute Board welcomes LaDonna R. Young and Steve Swain   

The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis welcomes LaDonna R. Young and Steve Swain to its Board. The Advisory Board assists the Institute in the strategic development and implementation of its mission and programs. Members have included community activists, attorneys, engineers, corporate, public relations officials and clergy.

UofM’s Joanna Curtis promoted to Vice President for Advancement; Record $26.5 million raised for academic fundraising

Joanna Curtis has been promoted to vice president for advancement as the University of Memphis secured a record $26.575 million for fiscal year 2021. It eclipsed consecutive records of $26.3 million in 2019 and $23.1 million in 2018.

UofM's Hooks Institute Selects “Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America” by Marcia Chatelain as the 2020 Hooks National Book Award Winner 

The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis has selected “Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America” by Marcia Chatelain (Liveright Publishing Corp) as the 2020 Hooks National Book Award winner.

UofM’s Hooks Institute Receives $40,000 Grant from Truist to Support the Hooks African American Male Initiative

The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change has received a $40,000 donation from Truist Financial Corporation.  The grant provides funding for the Hooks Institute Career-Readiness Success Initiative, which focuses on workforce development and financial literacy for the Hooks African American Male Initiative (HAAMI), and a new pilot program, A Seat at the Table (ASATT), an enrichment program for women.
