The Mighty Sound of the South
The University of Memphis Marching Band, the Mighty Sound of the South, has proudly represented the University of Memphis since 1940.
The Mighty Sound always brings a spirit and energy that enhances the game-day experience for everyone in attendance. We play in the sixty-one-thousand-seat Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, FedExForum in downtown Memphis, on campus and locations far away.
With band members representing virtually every academic major in the University, the Mighty Sound of the South is proud to be one of the largest and most diverse organizations on campus.
Students in the Mighty Sound of the South gain access to scholarships and out-of-state tuition waivers, plus travel to exciting locations in support of our athletic teams. Members are part of a rich university and band tradition, engage in meaningful music-making, and regularly perform for audiences in the tens of thousands. All of this while forging relationships and memories that will last a lifetime.

No audition is needed for high school marching band woodwinds and brass! Drumline and Color guard auditions are April 29.
Mighty Sound of the South 2023 Preview Show
Come kick off the marching season at our Preview Show Thursday, August 24, at 5:30 PM. The Mighty Sound of the South will take Memorial Field, near the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, to showcase their hard work during Band Camp and show off their upcoming season.
