The Strength of Diversity

Dear Campus Community:

Our nation has recently struggled with a number of violent expressions of hate. In the past few days alone there have been several tragic incidents, with the horrific synagogue shooting this past weekend in Pittsburgh being the latest example. These heartbreaking events can challenge some of our most fundamental beliefs about community. Know that you are part of a campus and community that cares about you, one that proudly carries a core belief and commitment to the strength of our diversity, across all domains. We embrace and celebrate our differences, recognizing that we all are enriched by these differences. This is a belief that reaches well beyond the boundaries of our campus; it is the foundation of our City and our nation.

If you need assistance during this period of mourning, do not hesitate to reach out. Professional assistance is always available for students through our Counseling Center, which can be reached at 901-678-2068 and at counseling@memphis.edu. Students can also contact the office of Dr. Justin Lawhead, our Dean of Students, at 901-678-2187. Employees can obtain assistance by contacting the Human Resources Office of Employee Relations and Engagement at 901-678-2603 and at emprelations@memphis.edu.
