About Dr. Angelia Sanders
Dr. Sanders earned her doctoral degree in Sociology from Kent State University with a concentration in the Sociology of Health and Health Care. She received her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Mississippi.
Angelia previously worked with the Division of Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where she served as a Public Health Advisor. She also worked on the Advancing Health Equity Team in the Program Development and Services Branch.
Prior to joining the CDC, Angelia worked in academia for 17 years. She was a tenured Associate Professor at The University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) during which time she served as Interim Department Chair for the Department of Health Science, Program Coordinator for the PhD in Health Education and Promotion program, and Program Coordinator for the MA in Health Studies campus program. Angelia was also a tenured Associate Professor at the Mississippi University for Women, where she served as the Program Coordinator for the Public Health Education undergraduate program. At the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Health.
Dr. Sanders’ research has focused on health disparities and reducing health inequities in vulnerable populations and medically underserved communities. She has procured several grants and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, a book, and three book chapters. Dr. Sanders has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in public health, presented at numerous professional conferences, and co-hosted several webinars.
