The Advanced Distributed Learning Memphis Intelligent Tutoring Center at the University
of Memphis is offering a unique and web-based tutorial system to college students
and third-graders through 12th-graders this summer.
The SOLE (Summer Online Learning Experience) Program links students with ALEKS (Assessment
Learning in Knowledge Spaces). ALEKS is a sophisticated online tutorial system that
assesses each student’s knowledge and skill level and then provides them with an interactive,
individualized and self-paced tutoring system.
The program runs for June, July and August and costs $36 for three months, which includes
unlimited use of the ALEKS program for those who register by May 31. A late registration
fee is included after that date. The last registration day is June 29.
College students can register for advanced mathematical concepts and topics, such
as statistics, while grade-school children can sign up for tutoring in mathematics
geared to improve performance on standardized statewide exams. Previous studies conducted
with ALEKS show that students who interact with ALEKS score higher on statewide-standardized
exams, such as the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program.
