Future Professional Aviator Scholarship

The University of Memphis in conjunction with CTI Professional Flight Training is pleased to offer a scholarship to cover the cost of 20 flight hours for students who have displayed excellence in their academic and aviation courses and demonstrate financial need in achieving their next certificate or rating toward becoming a professional pilot.

Applying for the Scholarship

All applicants must be currently enrolled full or part-time as a Commercial Aviation major at the University of Memphis, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. 

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Demonstrate financial need
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Soloed or completed a certificate or rating within the last six months
  • Currently training for the FAA Private Pilot certificate, Instrument rating, Commercial Pilot certificate, Certified Flight Instructor or Certified Flight Instructor Instrument.
  • Access to reliable transportation to ensure participation in the flight lessons
  • Community service and extra-curricular activities will also be considered

College of Professional & Liberal Studies Commercial Aviation Program aims to produce professional and competitive members of the aviation workforce. Applicants' submitted materials are scrutinized not only for content but also for presentation, organization, professionalism, and compliance with the program's specific application instructions, which are listed below.

  • Recommendation Letters: Applicants must submit at least two official letters of recommendation, from current University of Memphis faculty members or CTI Certified Flight Instructors
  • Personal Essay: Applicants must submit a brief, original essay (approximately 500-1000 words) that addresses the following points:
    • Describe your personal and professional goals in commercial aviation
    • Discuss your involvement with aviation, community and campus organizations and extracurricular activitie
    • Demonstrate financial need

Candidates will be selected by a committee comprised of aviation faculty members and advisors at the University of Memphis. Training will occur at CTI Professional Flight Training at Memphis/Millington Airport. Awards will be made to without regard to gender, race.

Only after your application is completed and all required documents are submitted will a final decision be made on the application. Please note that the College of Professional & Liberal Studies will notify applicants once a decision has been reached.
