Requests for Course Modifications Due to COVID-19 and the Virus that Causes It

Disability Resources for Students (DRS) is the University of Memphis department who has been given the responsibility of hearing and approving requests for modifications due to COVID-19 and the virus that causes it. Even if you do not have a disability, but are in need of a modification due to an underlying condition that puts you at an increased risk, pregnancy or breastfeeding, being over the age of 65, or living with someone who falls into one of these categories, or if you have children who will be at home due to the pandemic, you will work with DRS.

To start your COVID-19-related request, complete the Student Introduction Form found at https://yukon.accessiblelearning.com/Memphis/ApplicationStudent.aspx. When asked for the primary disability, use the dropdown menu to find your COVID-19 request status. Once you've completed this form, you will be contacted via your University of Memphis email about documents needed to support your request. Once documentation is received and reviewed, you will be informed regarding next steps.

Requests for Remote Learning

The University is providing many options for remote learning in Fall 2020. You should first discuss options for online classes with your academic adviser. You may be able to have your remote learning needs fulfilled without going through DRS. If you must register for a class that requires in-person interaction, DRS will explore alternative options with your professor to see if arrangements can be made.

Request for an Exemption to the University Policy on Masks

If you have an underlying condition that make wearing a mask difficult, please explore appropriate face covering options with your health care provider. You might also explore your opportunities for remote learning. If you have already considered these alternatives and would still like to request an exemption, please follow the instructions for completing the Student Introduction Form above.

Clear Masks

For some students, facial masks may be a barrier to communication. If you have a need to see your instructor's face during lectures, DRS can work with the faculty member and their department to provide windowed face masks for appropriate access.
