New International Students

Welcome, your journey at the University of Memphis begins here! Review this page for all relevant information about you as a new international student, such as the I-20 process and getting insurance. New students are welcome to check-in at the International Center (formerly called the Panhellenic Building) and report to their Designated School Official prior to Orientation as listed on page 3 of the I-20.

Fall 2020 Orientation Online Sessions

Wednesday, August 12 - Social and Academic Success in the U.S.
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Thursday, August 13 - Visa Rules and Regulations
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Attendance at International Student Orientation is mandatory for all new and transfer F-1 international students. A make-up session and assessment will be required for those not in attendance. Please bring your Passport/Visa and signed I-20 with you to the orientation. Light refreshments will be served.

Although people with other visa categories are always welcome, be aware that the focus for most of these Orientation presentations will be for F-1 visa holders. We will address registration & enrollment, on-campus employment & social security, and federal compliance issues with a particular focus on the needs of international students who either have the F-1 visa or who are holding F-1 status.

Please continue to watch this page for updates, a schedule of speakers, and other International Orientation news as we gain more details.

Requesting a Change to the Start Date on the I-20:

Students who can not enter the U.S. in time for the upcoming semester can request a change to the I-20 start date to match the next available term for full time enrollment.

Graduate Students - Please begin the process with changing your official semester of admission, using this link, or contact the Graduate School directly if you have questions about the process of changing to a new semester start date.

Undergraduate Students - Please begin the process of changing the I-20 start date to a future semester by e-mailing the Undergraduate Admissions Office with your request for a new admission date.  Be sure to put "International - Defer to New Semester" in the subject line.
