Honors College Sponsors Students to Present Research At National Conference
Fifteen University of Memphis honors students presented their research projects at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research from April 4-8. The event, which is the largest undergraduate research conference in the country, was hosted virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hannah Anderson, a senior biomedical engineering major from Wayne, Illinois, whose presentation is entitled “Evaluating Neutrophil Physiological State Upon Template Interaction with Deconvolved Z-Stack Imaging.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Greg Bowlin.
Susanna Beretta, a senior psychology major from Memphis, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “Examining the Effects of Oxytocin Administration on Dopamine Release Following Chronic Exposure to Cocaine.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Deranda Lester.
Samuel Brackens, a senior psychology major from Memphis, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “Do Adult Attachment Dimensions Moderate the Association Between Severity of Intimate Partner Violence Exposure and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder?” His faculty mentor is Dr. J. Gayle Beck.
Sarah Coleman, a senior biology major from Eads, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “Is Leg Brightness an Indicator of Physical Condition in House Finches?” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Jim Adelman.
Megan Crowley, a senior psychology major from Memphis, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “The Effects of Therapist Attire on Client Perceptions of the Therapist.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Jeffrey Berman.
Juan Esparza, a senior biomedical engineering major from Memphis, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “Automated Segmentation and Morphological Characterization of Hepatic Steatosis and Correlation with Histopathological Grades.” His faculty mentor is Dr. Aaryani Sajja.
Samantha Hall, a junior biomedical engineering major from Memphis, Tennessee, whose presentation is “Analysis of in-vivo Macrophage Polarization in Response to Raspberry Ketone-loaded Chitosan Membranes for Guided Bone Regeneration.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Joel Bumgardner.
Alixandria Kirkendol, a junior biology major from Medina, Tennessee, whose presentation is “Engagement in Metacognition Among Undergraduate Biology Students.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Jaime Sabel.
Mackenzie Love, a senior psychology major from Brighton, Tennessee, whose presentation is “Chronic Cocaine and Withdrawal Differentially Alter Dopamine Transporting Function.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Deranda Lester.
Alan Pillow, a senior mechanical engineering major from Bartlett, Tennessee, whose presentation is “Analysis of Aerosols and Particulates Emitted by Speaking and Singing.” His faculty mentor is Dr. Jeffrey Marchetta.
Sophia Rouse, a senior history major from Collierville, Tennessee, whose presentation is “Germanic Emigrants’ Influence on the City of Memphis between 1865-1880.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Susan O’Donovan.

Mary Kathleen Shannon, a senior psychology major from Memphis, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “The Impact of Test Anxiety on Evaluative Bias.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Cheryl Bowers.
Razan Sweileh, a senior biology major from Cordova, Tennessee, whose presentation is entitled “MAP3K4 Kinase Inactivation Leads to Fetal Growth Restriction in Murine Embryos.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Amy Abell.
