University of Memphis Receives Clean Tennessee Energy Grant

June 22, 2015 - The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation  (TDEC) has awarded the University of Memphis a $94,242 Clean Tennessee Energy Grant.

The grant will allow the UofM to replace the existing gas-fired boiler in Hyde Hall on the Lambuth Campus with a high-efficiency boiler. The new boiler is expected to reduce natural gas consumption by nearly 15,000 hundred cubic feet per year, saving about $20,000 annually.

"We are extremely pleased to be a recipient of the grant," said Dean Hansen, assistant vice president of Physical Plant. "The funding will not only help us reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at Lambuth Campus, but it will also remove a major deferred maintenance requirement from our books while increasing the reliability of the heating and cooling system for our students, faculty and staff who use Hyde Hall."

The TDEC awards, which totaled $3.1 million, support a commitment to preserve Tennessee's natural resources through energy efficiency and environmental mitigation projects.
