UofM Board of Trustees Approves Action on Gather Apartments, Athletic Foundation

January 29, 2019 - The University of Memphis Board of Trustees approved a request by the UofM to move forward with an agreement with Municipal Acquisitions to manage and eventually acquire the Gather on Southern apartments at a special called meeting Tuesday. The endeavor – the first of its kind by a public university in the State of Tennessee – will allow the University to expand its housing inventory in a public/private partnership.

"The endeavor fits in perfectly with our long-term housing mission," said UofM President M. David Rudd, noting the high cost of constructing new residence halls. "The average age of housing at the University is 57 years. We do not have the kind of housing that is attractive to students. This allows us an alternative that is affordable and attractive. It's good for the University, it's good for the community, it's good for students."

In other action, the Board authorized the repurposing and renaming of the Tigers of Memphis Athletic Foundation as the University of Memphis Auxiliary Services Foundation.

The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held March 6 in the University Center on the main campus.
