April 1, 2024 The University of Memphis today honored Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Roger A. Page as an Outstanding Law Alumni for his service to the state’s highest court. Page was presented the honor by UofM Provost David Russomanno on behalf of President Bill Hardgrave in the Historic Courtroom at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

Justice Page will retire in August after serving more than eight years on the court. He served as Chief Justice from September 2021 to August 2023.

The UofM Law School hosted the Tennessee Supreme Court’s April Docket on Wednesday as the court spent the day hearing cases in the school’s Historic Courtroom. The court’s Chief Justice — Holly Kirby — is also a UofM Law alumnus.

“Justice Page, sad to us, has given notice of his upcoming retirement, and this is the last docket in West Tennessee that the court will hear while (Justice Page) is still with us on the court,” said Kirby. “So, it is perhaps fitting that we are hearing these arguments at the school where Justice Page began his legal career.”

Page received his JD from the UofM Law School in 1984, ranking fourth in his class.

“It is always a great honor for our Law School to host the esteemed justices of the Tennessee Supreme Court,” said John Houseal, President of the UofM Law Alumni Association. “It is especially significant to the School and the University to have the chance to honor one of our own — Justice Roger Page — as he nears the end of his remarkable tenure on the court.”

Prior to assuming a seat on the Tennessee Supreme Court, Page served as an appellate judge on the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals from December 2011 to February 2016. He wrote more than 330 appellate opinions while on the Court of Criminal Appeals. Page began his judicial career after being elected Circuit Court Judge in the 26th Judicial District in 1998.
