NCAA Rules Compliance
At Memphis Athletics, we strive to adhere to all NCAA rules and regulations. As such, please review the following information regarding common questions surrounding NCAA by-laws. Being found to have violated these rules can have significant consequences, not only for you, but for Tiger student-athletes and coaches. If your particular question is not answered below, please contact Memphis Athletics Compliance at tigerscompliance@memphis.edu or 901.678.2088.
A booster is anyone who is now or has previously been a member of an organization promoting the institution's athletics program; or has made a financial contribution to the athletics program or an athletics booster organization; or has helped arrange employment for a student-athlete; or has been involved in the promotion of the athletics program. Once someone is classified as as booster, that title is retained for life.
You Can - But Must Ask First
• Send information (internet postings, news articles, etc.) about a prospective student-athlete
(recruit) to Memphis coaching staff members.
• Provide an occasional meal to current student-athletes at your home or on campus,
BUT any meal must receive prior approval from Memphis Athletics Compliance.
• Have contact with enrolled student-athletes on campus.
• Employ a student-athlete during the academic year or summer AS LONG AS they are
paid at the going rate AND for work actually performed. Any employment of student-athletes
must receive written prior approval from the Athletic Compliance Office.
• Continue established relationships with friends and neighbors, including children
of these families, provided the relationship is not established for recruiting purposes
or at the direction/encouragement of Memphis staff. You can only provide benefits
which are similar in nature to the benefits provided prior to the family’s children
becoming a prospective student-athlete (recruit).
