Dr. Sumanta Acharya is the new Chair of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Sumanta AcharyaDr. Sumanta Acharya is the new Chair of Mechanical Engineering (effective August 2014) and is also the first holder of the recently established Ring Companies endowed Chair—awarded to distinguished scholars for excellence in engineering education and research. He comes to Herff from Louisiana State University where he held two professorships (L. R. Daniel Professor and Fritz and Francis Blumer Professor), and founded the Center for Turbine Innovation and Energy Research (TIER). For the past four years (2010-2014) he was on assignment at the National Science Foundation (NSF) as Program Director of the Thermal Transport Processes Program in Engineering. His research expertise is in the field of Thermal-Fluid Sciences, Gas Turbine Heat Transfer and Gas Turbine Combustion. He is widely published with over 400 refereed technical articles.
