Welcome to Human Subject Protection

The University of Memphis Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee designed to approve, monitor, and review any research involving humans. The aim of the IRB is to protect the rights and welfare of the research subjects.

This web site is designed to guide you through the process of obtaining approval for human subject research. The Education Requirements page links to where you can obtain certification to conduct research involving human subjects. Effective 6/30/12, certification is required for the investigator and, if applicable, the faculty advisor before the IRB will process your application. Please include the CITI certification number in your application.

On August 1, 2016 Cayuse IRB will be ready for use. Researchers, please create new/initial protocols using Cayuse IRB starting August 1st.

From Thursday, August 25th – Wednesday, August 31st the IRB willnot be accepting protocols for review so that Cayuse IRB software implementation can be finalized.

On September 1, 2016, it will be mandatory for all UofM researchers to use Cayuse IRB for all protocol submissions.
