Undergraduate Objective
The objective for the African American Male Academy for undergraduate students is to increase the graduation rates and degrees awarded to African American Male Seniors.
- Completion Grants are awarded each semester to African American male seniors who have tuition balances and who could graduate the following semester if their balances were paid permitting them to reenroll and graduate. The average completion grant is $1500. Each year, approximately $100,000 are applied to students’ accounts. We mind the data to determine which students are most needy. Sixty-six to seventy students receive these awards.
- Destination Graduation is designed to assist and support African American (AA) male students in the completion of their degree program at the UofM. The program focuses on AA male students with 90 hours of above to provide additional academic support to help these students get across the finish line to graduation. All AA male students at the UofM who have 90 hours or more and pair them with a faculty, staff member, or peer mentor who will guide them through the completion of their degree program.
- Affiliates are made up of male faculty, staff, or graduate students at the University who identify partially or fully as African American and possess a post-secondary degree or certification. They embody a culture of brotherhood amongst the Academy and offer advice and mentorship to African American male students.
