Travel Policies
If you are planning University-related international travel, you will find the University's travel policy and all the information you need regarding approvals, expenses, and reservations here.
All faculty and staff traveling abroad through a UofM-sponsored program or who are receiving funding from UofM for independent travel are required to register their travel information with the Division of International Affairs. Click on this link and then the Apply Now button to complete the registration process. You will be asked for your itinerary and contact information in your destination country(ies).
Recruiting Abroad
Whatever your purpose for traveling abroad, the Division of International Affairs
encourages you to include recruitment activities in your schedule. The UofM aims to
expand and diversify enrollment, and attracting international students is an important
element of its strategy. DIA will assist you in setting up visits appropriate to your
destination and open avenues for connecting with area students. The U.S. Department
of State sponsors more than 400 EducationUSA advising centers and the International
Trade Administration offers its Gold Key Service to arrange meetings with potential
partners. Write to dia@memphis.edu at least three months prior to your trip and we will give you a personalized assessment
of how you can contribute to recruitment efforts.

It is critical that you pay close attention to these subjects since violating these federal regulations can carry severe consequences for you and the University.
Traveling Safely
The Department of State maintains travel advisories for every location in the world with information about specific concerns for travelers at Travel Advisories (state.gov). In addition, there are many resources available online for tips on traveling safely abroad. Especially if you are not a frequent traveler, we encourage you to search for information about your destination related to safety precautions, common threats, how to contact local emergency services, and cultural norms.
