Make a Mask

Anubis Mask  Bes Mask  Hathor Mask  Sekhmet Mask

Color a mask of a popular Egyptian deity or Egypt's most well-known pharaoh. Gods in Egypt take on many different forms. Anubis is a jackal-headed god associated with death and burial. Bes is associated with the protection of children. Hathor, sometimes depicted as a cow, is the goddess of the sky, music, love, and motherhood. Sekhmet, a lioness-headed goddess, is associated with destruction and protection. Tutankhamun ruled as Pharaoh during the New Kingdom.

Additional supplies: colored pencils/markers/crayons, scissors, popsicle sticks, hole punch, string

Directions:

Click on the image of the mask you want to make to open a downloadable PDF. There's a short description on the back, so you may want to print double-sided (or cut out the desctiption and glue on the backside of the mask). We reccommend printing on thicker paper or you can glue the finished mask to cardstock.

Decorate the mask as you wish. See above for some completed examples.

After coloring the mask, cut around the edges and cut out the eye holes, though leave some space to punch holes near the ears where you can tie a string so you can wear your mask. Or you can staple a popsicle stick to the bottom of the mask to hold it up in front of your face.
