The U of M Virtual Language Expo

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Memphis held the Virtual World Language Expo from Monday, April 12 thru Thursday, April 15, 2021. This event was organized by the Department of World Languages and Literatures.

Here is some important information about this event. (Please note that as previously announced, the usual Language Fair has been postponed until further notice; the Virtual Language Expo was held this Spring instead).

  • Who is invited?
    All teachers, students, parents, and administrators are invited to attend.  This is a free event, though there is a virtual participation capacity of 300 in each presentation.  Admittance to each session is first-come-first-serve.  

  • What will be presented? 
    Faculty from the University of Memphis Department of World Languages and Literatures will present each area of study within the department.  Time will be allotted for questions and answers.  

  • How do I view a presentation? 
    Missed a live session or want to see it again? Recordings and any documents provided by the presenters will be posted on the Events pages.

  • How can I stay up-to-date about future events?

General information about the Language Fair (postponed) 

  • After consulting with a number of language teachers in the region, the decision was made to postpone the 30th annual U of M Language Fair to a future year.
  • Instead, there will be a Virtual Language Expo highlighting the importance of language education worldwide and at the University of Memphis, which will take place on April 12-16, 2021.

 

The following information describes the Language Fair:

The University of Memphis Language Fair is an opportunity for your students earning high school credit in a world language to CREATE, PERFORM, and KNOW about the target language and culture they are currently studying. From academic to artistic production, the Language Fair offers activities for students studying Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish – no matter the course level nor their linguistic proficiency:

*All writing, and video submissions must be submitted at the time of registration.

EXPLORE – Attend performances in other languages or take a mini lesson in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish to truly explore a world of languages.

EXPERIENCE – Spend a day on the UofM campus - the largest university in West Tennessee: Take a campus tour, meet our world language faculty, and learn about some of the student and cultural organizations on campus.

CONNECT – With approximately 50 secondary schools from across the MidSouth represented, the Language Fair is an excellent opportunity to network with other world language educators. All registered teachers are welcome to enjoy our Teacher Hospitality Room throughout the day of the Language Fair.
