UofM Graduate School Advisory Board Member: Patti Bradford
Patti Bradford is a retired Assistant Professor from the University of Memphis in
the University College.
She was born in Lamar, Colorado and graduated from Hillcrest High School in Memphis, TN. During high school she received her Certificate in Piano from Southwestern College School of Music (now Rhodes College).
Education
She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and design from Mississippi State College
for Women (now Mississippi University for Women). Her terminal master's degree is
a Master of Fine Arts in painting and contemporary art history from Memphis State
University (now University of Memphis).
Professional Experience
She taught both undergraduate and graduate courses for 37 years in the Home Furnishings
and Housing area of Consumer Science in the University College. She was the academic
advisor to the Home Furnishings majors and directed the internship program for the
home furnishing majors. She edited the textbook, Interiors, an Introduction by Nielson
and Taylor. She was a member of the Faculty Senate, undergraduate curriculum committee
for 10 years, Chair of the Social Discipline committee for 10 years, and member of
several faculty search committees.
She received the outstanding Faculty award from the University College and the Distinguished Service Award in 2014.
Research/Exhibitions
Her art work has been accepted in several juried art shows including the Dixon; Memphis
Brooks; the Parthenon, Nashville; Texas Fine Art Association, Austin, Texas; Mississippi
University for Women.
She has had several invitational, group and one man shows. Her work is in the collection
of various groups including The Cotton Council in Washington, DC, University of Memphis,
Baptist Hospital, Carey Lumber Co., Delta Farm Press and many private collections.
In her volunteer work she was Chair of Building and Grounds at Germantown Presbyterian
Church and during that time she facilitated a $500,000 restoration of the church after
a major flood.
She also volunteered with the Special Needs Ministry at GPC.
Currently: She consults on space planning, kitchen planning, color selections for clients’ homes. She is excited to once again work with the UofM graduate students.
Her personal interests include: working out, gardening, playing the piano
A fun Fact: She is at the gym by 5:30 a.m. most mornings. After years she has resumed her piano lessons and has performed numerous times.
