The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys is proud to welcome William Worster to our faculty as an Associate Professor of Law.

A renowned international law expert, Professor Worster has taught public international law, the law of international organizations and international migration and refugee law (among many other related international law courses) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences for more than 17 years. He has also served as a visitor professor or Fellow at several prestigious institutions throughout Europe over the past decade, including at Charles University of Prague, the University of Zurich, Leiden University, and the University of Amsterdam. Professor Worster has served in numerous legal capacities in academia, private practice, NGOs, government, and the United Nations.

"Adding someone with Will’s international pedigree is something everyone at Memphis Law is excited about,” said Dean Jim Strickland. “International developments have become more intertwined with issues across the legal spectrum in recent years, and having someone that can help our students learn how to navigate those complexities and understand how to think across legal systems will be invaluable.”

After so much time practicing internationally, it took a unique combination of things to bring Professor Worster back to the United States.

"What drew me most to Memphis Law was the combination of an exceptionally welcoming academic community, a strong commitment to students, and the opportunity to teach law in a city with such a distinctive legal and historical identity," he said. "Throughout the hiring process, I was struck by how thoughtful and engaged the faculty and students were, and by how seriously the school approaches both teaching and scholarship."

"I was especially drawn to Memphis because of its deep connection to civil rights, public service, and legal advocacy," he added. "That history gives the law school a unique sense of purpose. I’m thrilled by the opportunity to contribute to Memphis’s legal traditions while also helping deepen Memphis Law’s engagement with international law, human rights, and global legal issues. It feels like a place where meaningful things are happening and where there is real energy around continuing to build something special together."

Professor Worster has honed his expertise all over the world and the law school is excited to have him join the faculty and the Memphis Law family.
