LCON is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Annapoorna Mary as the new PhD Program Director, effective May 6th. Dr. Mary's acceptance of this key leadership position is met with enthusiasm as she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to further enrich the PhD program at LCON.

Dr. Mary has been deeply engaged in LCON's PhD program, earning recognition for her exceptional guidance and mentorship of PhD students. Her dedication to academic excellence and research advancement is well-known within the institution and the wider academic community.

As the founding PhD Program Director at LCON, Dr. Mary has demonstrated her commitment to shaping the program's trajectory. Her research focus spans cardiovascular nursing, with notable contributions in preventing cardiac risk factors and enhancing patient care outcomes. Dr. Mary's research portfolio encompasses a diverse range of topics, including studies on cardiopulmonary risk factors post-CABG surgery, readmission prediction/prevention, discharge education, heart health education, tele-nursing, self-care management improvement, health equity, and quality of life among underserved populations.

Dr. Mary's dedication to research excellence is underscored by her success in securing multiple internal grants and her ongoing work on two significant proposals. Notably, she is spearheading an R15/NIH grant set for submission in October 2024 and a VA grant due for submission this summer. Additionally, Dr. Mary serves as Co-Investigator on several research grants, including actively contributing to Dr. Leanne Lefler's R01 grant and Dr. Umberger's R15 grant.

Beyond her research endeavors, Dr. Mary is a respected figure in the global academic arena. She serves as a visiting professor at international universities in India and collaborates with faculties in China to recruit and educate PhD students, further enhancing LCON's global outreach.
