The Ida B. Wells committee at the University of Memphis welcomes undergraduate and graduate submissions for our annual Ida B. Wells conference. The Ida B. Wells committee has a long history of hosting conferences that examine different aspects of Africana philosophy and the legacy of Ida B. Wells. This year's conference continues that legacy with the theme of Southern Hip-Hop and Africana philosophy. We invite undergraduate and graduate students to submit papers in all areas of study concerning black and/or African American thought, experiences, struggles, and life. Submissions are due by March 15, 2020.

  • The growing phenomenon of "trap" music
  • Black emotional expressions in Hip-Hop
  • The line between Hip-Hop/Rap and aspects of class
