FACILITY ASSISTANT POSITION

The Facility Assistant (FA) role is a live-on student employment position offered by the Department of Housing and Residence Life. FAs can earn up to 37.5 hours a week, as part of the Department's summer staff. FAs must be mature students, with strong communication skills and a desire to learn in a multifaceted setting. This role assists the Custodial and General Maintenance Staff by providing preventive maintenance for various University residence halls and apartments. FAs report directly to the Facilities Manager and the Housing and Residence Life, Assistant Director for Facilities. 

JOB DUTIES
  • Inspect rooms to ensure preparation before group arrival and after group departure
  • Work with Custodial and General Maintenance Staff to ensure satisfactory preparation of facilities.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and smoke detector batteries, replacing window screens, moving furniture and other heavy items, completing minor patchwork to walls/drywalls and painting.
  • Be available in the residence halls for scheduled duty nights.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Assist with other duties as required.
  • Present a good image of The University of Memphis by means of tidy appearance, a pleasant and helpful disposition, a positive attitude and responsive action

 

  • Must be a student enrolled at The University of Memphis and registered as a full-time student in good academic standing for Fall 2024.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25
  • GPA requirements will be checked again at the end of the Spring 2024 semester.
  • Must be in good judicial and financial standing with the University.
  • Must have flexible hours to coincide with conference and summer schedule.
  • May only take one summer school class per session

 

Hourly pay of $10.00 for up to 37.5 hours a week.
