New Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Opportunity at the University of Memphis!
REU Site: Research experiences for undergraduates in genomics.
*This site is currently pending. If funded, the first cohort will begin in the summer of 2023. Please check back in early 2023 for more information or request to join our email list for updates (genomics_reu@memphis.edu).
The proposed REU Site will be hosted by the University of Memphis (UofM) with research mentors from the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Computer Science. The REU site will provide 10 weeks of research experiences, training, and professional development to 30 undergraduate students in the field of genomics. Specific research areas will include bioinformatics, conservation, epigenomics, metagenomics, and phylogenomics, with a focus on enabling participants to link biological and genomic concepts across multiple scales of organization—from the molecular to macro. The 10-week program will include: (1) hypothesis-driven independent projects enabling students to gain integrative genomics research experience, (2) interactions with scientists in academic and non-academic professions, (3) weekly seminars from researchers conducting innovative genomics research, (4) weekly workshops for professional development and specialized research skills, (5) written and oral presentations of student projects, and (6) cohort building activities to promote belonging at the cohort and program levels.
