Dr. Nirman Kumar joined the Department as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2016. Before that he was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2014.
Dr. Kumar's research focuses on computational geometry and approximation algorithms. More specifically, he has worked on approximate proximity searching in low dimensional spaces, and algorithms for uncertain data in geometry. His work has been published in top theory venues such as FOCS, SODA, SoCG, PODS, SICOMP, and DCG. Some of his conference papers have been invited to special journal issues.
