Dr. Phan is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Computer Science. His current research interests include computer science education, bioinformatics, and data science.

In CS education, he is interested in developing best strategies and active-learning tools to deliver just-in-time and personalized instruction and intervention during class time. In bioinformatics, he is interested in developing computational methods to analyze sequencing and variant data. He is also interested in applying machine learning and data mining techniques to these two areas of research.
